Duck Bully

My house backs up to a "lake" although I would call it a large pond. We have somewhere around 40 ducks on the lake that love to come visit me when I go outside. The husband likes to feed them from the backyard and they remember us! This morning I was out in the backyard and all of the ducks came up to the backyard. I wasn't out there to feed them but I do like to go to the back to watch them. Ducks are pretty amusing animals in general.

Today, however, we had one duck who is trying to be the neighborhood duck bully. He was picking on all of the other ducks. Before you comment and say that he was trying to "impress the ladies," I will tell you that this duck was an equal opportunity bully. He fought with the male ducks and female ducks alike. I attempted to get a picture or video of our duck bully but he wisely would stop every time I would snap a picture. I will attempt to post a picture in the future.

We were out at Hooks Airport a few years ago where they have a small lake and scads of duck, geese, fish, birds, mosquitos, and people in flight jumpsuits hanging out. As I had my many children with me feeding the ducks, we heard a commotion of quacking and saw a cloud of dust and feathers. TWO drakes were chasing a female duck. One held her down by biting her neck while the other one did the nasty. Then when the female tried to get away, they changed places. Duck gang rape didn't exactly fit in with our "Miracle Of Life!" discussions.

The funniest thing about the airport is that they feature a small family owned restaurant there. I swear to you that most of the time their special of the week involvves something ducky. Like, Peking Duck, Roasted Duck, Sweet and Sour Duck. Wonder where they get their ingredients?

Too funny! Fortunately we haven't had any duck gang rape around here so far although mating season is coming up. I will be on the watch for any felonious ducks!

Yep, I have known Rhonda for about 6 or 7 years.
